In Lassithi, near Aghios Nikolaos, you will be able to visit some of the island’s finest ancient sites, such as the Minoan Palace in Zakros, and the Ancient Settlements of Driros, Praissos, Itanos and Palekastro. It is also worth visiting the ancient sites in the Myrtos, Pachia Ammos, Makrygialos and Gournia. In the lovely seaside town of Elounda, we recommend visiting the ruins of Ancient Olounda , which are located under the surface of the sea and can be seen clearly when waters are calm . In Sitia and Ierapetra, you can admire the Venetian Fortresses of Karzama and Kales, respectively. Aghios Nikolaos takes its name from the Byzantine Church of Aghios Nikolaos, which is located there. Toplou Monastery in Sitia is one of the most historic monasteries in Greece. For those of you who like trekking and hiking, the gorges of Cha and Chavga, Katharos Plateau and Lassithi Plateau are ideal for both nonchalant walks and more rigorous hikes. The Caves in Milatos and the Diktaion Andron Cave on Lassithi Plateau are two wonderful natural sites that shouldn"t be missed. Probably the most well-known site in Lassithi is the Palm Tree Beach, a natural masterpiece and an idyllic location that resembles a tropical beach.

In the prefecture of Heraklion Crete, we recommend taking a walk around the city to admire the Venetian walls and Koules Castle, as well as the Churches of Aghios Titos, Aghios Markos, Aghios Minas, and Agia Ekaterini. Heraklion Town is also home to some of the best museums in Crete, including its marvelous Archaeological Museum, where many of the ancient artefacts found on the island are displayed. The famous Minoan Palace of Knossos and the Minoan settlements in Phaestos, Amnissos, Tylissos, Gortyna, Malia, Lyttos, Archanes and Levina are the jewels of antiquity in Crete and are a must while on holiday there. Natural sites, including the Caves in Matala, Amnissos and Kamares, the beautiful Mt. Youchtas, and the Viannos-Amira Gorge are simply breathtaking. A visit to the "Lychnostatis" Folklore Museum in Hersonissos and the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum in Peza is also a treat.
